1,048,575 - 15,000 - 30,000 = 1,003,575
The results of the calculation shows that you can create up to 1,003,575 FS pairs.
An FS pair consists of a P-VOL and up to 1,024 V-VOLs. Differential tables are used per P-VOL.
The number of differential tables you can you use does not depend on the number of V-VOLs.
Calculating the number of Fast Snap pairs based on the snapshot estimated manageable capacity
You can view the snapshot estimated manageable capacity in the Local Replications window.
To calculate the number of FS pairs that you can create based on the snapshot estimated
manageable capacity, use the following formula:
The number of snapshot estimated manageable capacity / the snapshot
manageable capacity per P-VOL
The snapshot manageable capacity per P-VOL = (the P-VOL capacity of FS
pairs [TB] / 2.6 [TB]) * 3,024 [GB] + (168GB * 2 (consumed shared
memory))
Calculating the number of Fast Snap pairs based on the number of cache management devices
You can view the number of cache management devices in the View Management Resource Usage
window.
To calculate the number of FS pairs that you can create based on the number of cache management
devices, use the following formula:
The number of FS pairs that you can create = the number of cache
management devices / ceil (the P-VOL capacity of FS pairs [TB]) / 2.6
[TB])

Calculating the number of cache management devices
Cache management devices are the unit for controlling the cache in association with volumes
(LDEVs). Each volume requires a minimum of one cache management device. You can manage
up to 65,280 cache management devices in a system. You can view the number of cache
management devices in the View Management Resource Usage window.
This section explains the number of cache management devices that are required for FS tasks.
For more information about LDEVs and the cache management devices that are required for THP
volumes, see the HP XP P9000 Provisioning for Open Systems User Guide.
Fast Snap cache management device requirements
To create FS pools for the first time, you must have a total of 8,192 cache management devices
available. FS assigns 4,096 cache management devices from the amount available.
To create an FS pair for a volume for the first time, you must have at least 4,097 cache management
devices available. Otherwise, pair creation can fail. Use the following formula to calculate the
number of cache management devices you will need to create pairs.
Use the following formula when you create an FS pair for a volume for the first time:
ceil(Size of P-VOL ÷ 2.6) (in terabytes)
If the amount of pool usage for the P-VOL exceeds 70% of the total capacity of the cache
management devices reserved for the P-VOL, another cache management device must be reserved.
Each P-VOL requires up to 256 cache management devices.
