7 Enterprise s torage servers
Some HP ProLiant Storage Servers use the Microsoft® Windows® Unified D a ta Storage Server 2003
operating system. This operating system provides u nified storage server management capabilities,
simplified setup and manag em ent of storage and sha red folders, and support for Microsoft iSCSI
Software Target. It is specially tuned to provide o ptim al per formance for network-attached storage and
provides significant enhancements in share and storag e management scenarios, as well as integration
of storage server management components and functionality. This chapter describes features of the
Microsoft® Windows® Unified Data Storage Server 2003 operating system.
NOTE:
NotallHPProLiantStorageServersusetheMicrosoft®Windows®Unified Data Storage Server 2003,
Enterprise x64 Edition operating system. See the HP Pr oLiant Storage Server QuickSpecs to determine if
your storage server runs this operating system.
IMPORTANT:
TheMicrosoft®Windows®Unified Data Storage Server 2 003, Enterprise x64 Edition operating system
is designed to support 32–bit applications without modification; however, a ny 32–bit applications
that are run on this operating system should be thoroughly tested before releasing the storage server
to a production en vir onment .
Windows Server Remote Administration Applet
Remote administration from non-Microsoft computers uses the Windows Server Remote Administration
Applet a nd is accessed from a browser. The browser on the client computer can be any of the following:
• Firefox version 1.0.6 (o r later)
• Mozilla version 1.7.11 (or later)
Use of Windows Server Remote Administration Applet is suppor ted by clients running Java 2 Runtime
Environment, version 1.4.2 on any of the following:
• A computer running a Windows o perating system and Internet Explorer 6 or later browser
• Any of the following non-Microsoft operating systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS, Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4 WS, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Establishing a connection is do n e directly through the browser. Windows Server Remote Administration
Applet does not support sound redirection, printer or p ort redire ction, or automatically starting
applications.
To establish a browser-based conn ection to Windows Unified Data Storage Ser ver 2003
1. Open the browser on the client computer.
2. Type the network name or the network IP address of the storage server followed by /admin (for
example, http://myStorageServer/admin).
3. In Remote Administration Desktop, provide the appropriate credentials.
