13 Express Query
Express Query provides a per-file system database of system and custom metadata, and audit
histories of system and file activity. When Express Query is enabled on the file system, you can
manage the metadata service, configure auditing, create reports from the audit history, assign
custom metadata and certain system metadata to files and directories, and query for selected
metadata from files.
Express Query provides the following components:

reports of selected parts of the audit
history from the database.

database over an HTTP share. You
can assign custom metadata to files
and directories. You can set certain
system attributes. In some parts of the
product StoreAll REST API is also
referred to as Object API.
Managing the metadata service
The metadata service includes the database management processes, as well as the processes that
watch for state changes and log the associated metadata in the Express Query database. The
service is controlled with the ibrix_archiving command. One set of processes runs on the
Active Fusion Manager server and manages all per-file system databases. Stopping the service
disables access to all file systems’ databases. This section provides the basic commands for
managing the metadata service, in addition to the following sections on metadata:
“Saving and importing file system metadata” (page 164)
“Metadata and continuous remote replication” (page 166)
View the status of the metadata service:
ibrix_archiving -i
The Services section of the GUI dashboard also displays the status of the metadata service.
List file systems registered for the metadata service:
ibrix_archiving -l
Start the metadata service:
ibrix_archiving -s
Stop the metadata service:
ibrix_archiving -S [-F] [-t timeout secs]
The -t option specifies the time (in seconds) to wait for the service to stop gracefully.
