InaRAID1array,everyreadandwriteiscarriedoutinparallelacrosstwodiskdrives.
Themirrored—orbackup—copyofthedatacanresideonthesamediskoronasecond
redundantdriveinthearray.RAID1providesahot‐standbycopyofdataiftheactive
volumeordriveiscorruptedorbecomesunavailableduetoahardwarefailure.RAID1
techniquescanbe appliedforhigh‐availabilitysolutions,orasaformofautomaticbackup
thateliminatestediousmanualbackupstomoreexpensiveandlessreliablemedia.
RAID1providescompletedataredundancy,butatthe
costofdoublingtherequireddata
storagecapacity,resultingin50%capacityutilization.Performanceisroughlythesameas
forasingledrive,althoughinsomeinstancesthedualwritemaybesomewhatslower.
RAID 0+1
RAID0drivescanbemirroredusingRAID1techniques,resultinginaRAID0+1solution
forimprovedperformanceplusresiliency
Thecontrollercombinestheperformanceofdatastriping(RAID0)andthefaulttolerance
ofdiskmirroring(RAID1).Dataisstripedacrossmultipledrivesandduplicatedon
anotherset
ofdrives.

dataandparityblocksacrossallthedrivesinthearray.Faulttoleranceismaintainedby
ensuringthattheparityinformationforanygivenblockofdataisplacedonadifferent

JBODstandsfor“JustaBunchofDisks”.Eachdriveisaccessedasifitwereonastandard
SCSIhostbusadapter.Thisisusefulwhenasingledriveconfigurationisneeded,butit
offersnospeedimprovementorfaulttolerance
