RAID 0
InaRAID0array,thecontrollerʺstripesʺdataacrossmultipledrivesintheRAID
subsystem.RAID0breaksupalargefileintosmallerblocksandthenperformsdiskreads
andwritesacrossmultipledrivesinparallel.Thesizeofeachblockisdeterminedbythe
stripesizeparameter,which
yousetduringthecreationof theRAID0set.Performanceof
applicationsrunningwithaRAID0canvarygreatlydependingonthestripesize
configuredwhencreatingthearray.Thedefaultstripesizeis64K,but32Kor16Kmaybe
moreefficientiftheapplicationissuesmany
smallerI/Ooperations.Someamountoftrial
anderrormaybeappropriatetofi ndtheoptimumstripesize.
RAID0isidealforapplicationsthatrequirehighbandwidthbutdonotrequirefault
tolerance.RAID0hasthebestperformanceandcapacityofanyRAIDlevel,butthelowest
availability(no
faulttolerance).Ifonedrivefails,theentirearrayfailsbecause partofthe
dataismissingwithnowaytorecoveritotherthanrestoringfromabackup.
