The printer is designed to be reliable and easy to use. The following
pages offer tips and advice for addressing frequently asked questions.

Before you begin, make sure:
• All the cable connections between your printer and computer are
secure.
• You are using the correct cable for your operating system. For more
information, see “cables” on page 7.

important Windows PC information
If you are using your HP PhotoSmart printer with a Windows PC, the
printer requires a continuous connection to the computer. The computer
uses this communication link to access and read the status of memory
cards in the printer, as well as print cartridge ink levels, and other
feedback from the printer.
