Installing a new MSA system
The Setup tab provides an interactive checklist of the key steps of successfully installing a new MSA
system. To use this tab, do the following:
1. Obtain the following documents that are needed when installing an MSA array:
Racking installation instructions poster
MSA systems installation instructions poster
If printed versions of the posters are not available, obtain PDF versions from the DVD Documents
tab. For more information, see “Obtaining user documents (page 7).
2. In the bottom row of tabs in the DVD interface, select the Setup tab, and in the top row of
tabs, select the P2000 G3 or MSA2000/MSA2000 G2 tab, depending on the family of your
MSA.
3. Select your MSA model from the list in the left pane. A brief installation and setup checklist
for that MSA model is displayed in the right portion of the screen, with a link to the product
user guide just above the checklist table.
4. Click the link to the MSA user guide and save the PDF to a location on the system.
5. Using the installation checklist and its embedded hot-links, along with the racking instructions
poster, MSA installation instructions poster, and user guide, install and configure the MSA.
Installation steps common to all MSA models:
a. Rack the MSA. (See the racking instructions poster.)
b. Connect cables from the controller enclosure to servers, switches, and cascaded drive
enclosures. (See the MSA installation instructions poster and the MSA user guide.)
c. Connect power cords. (See the MSA installation instructions poster and the MSA user
guide.)
d. Test connections. (See the MSA user guide.)
e. Install required host software. (Click the link for your operating system environment in the
left pane of the DVD checklist to display a list and access these required components.
When the software components are installed, click the MSA model in the left pane of the
interface.)
f. Connect to data hosts. (See the MSA user guide.)
g. Connect to remote management hosts. (See the MSA user guide.)
h. Obtain IP values and set management port IP properties on the controller enclosure. (Click
the link in the checklist or see the MSA user guide.)
i. Configure the array and its storage, including updating firmware on components and
configuring the drives. (See the MSA user guide.)
Obtaining user documents
The Documents tab provides a detailed listing of user documents for MSA arrays. You can open
the PDF of the document that is on the DVD or click a search link to locate the latest version on the
hp.com website.
Obtaining drivers
The Software tab provides a detailed listing of software drivers and Microsoft QFE updates that
can be installed on servers connected to MSA arrays. You can install the version of software that
is on the DVD or click a search link to locate the latest version on the web.
Obtaining firmware
The Firmware tab provides a listing of array controller and I/O module firmware used by MSA
arrays and drive enclosures. No firmware is included on the DVD, but a link to locate the latest
version on the hp.com website is provided.
